Summer 2005

Davos
Davos is delightfully different. For generations, the local people have called it, quite simply, "our country." The idea reflects the region's unique landscape. It’s easy to explore the captivating countryside around Davos and the surrounding area.

A network of clearly signed and excellently maintained hiking trails extends for 280 miles (450 km), from leisurely walking to more testing terrain, rising high above the woodlands. The well-marked trails follow along sparkling streams, over alpine pastures, through secluded villages and valleys to historic Walser settlements.

Davos is also where modern technology teams up with nature. The mountain railways serve five wonderful hiking areas, including the region's most scenic vantage points. You can leave the tough climbs to a cable car or funicular. On the upper mountain, you might even find yourself face-to-face with the inquisitive ibex. This deer-like animal has inhabited the Alps since time immemorial and is depicted on the Graubünden’s cantonal coat of arms. The wild flowers are abundant and the wildlife is as diverse as the landscape.

Arosa
Arosa lies in an alpine valley almost 6000 ft. (1800 m) above sea level. Sheltered from the prevailing winds, its long days are sunny and the hillsides are thickly forested. Despite its seclusion, visitors can get there by train or auto, as well as by hiking trails.

It offers over 200 km of well-maintained footpaths and hiking trails, in addition to a choice of alpine routes, and evening walks to the Altein waterfalls, along with tours to ten lakes.

Lenzerheide
The high valley of Lenzerheide-Valbella is an alpine environment with wide meadows, lush forests and towering granite cliffs typical of the Swiss Alps. Located 4920 ft. (1500 m) above sea level, it is a good place for exciting holidays or relaxing get-aways. Plus, the area offers many different sport possibilities.

The surroundings of Lake Heidsee are a dream for hikers who want to relax. If you want to enjoy the view of the high valley from the top of the mountains, your challenge waits for you. You can reach comfortable sun terraces via chair lifts, cable car, or on foot.

NOTE:
Not recommended for beginners unless they are in good physical condition.
Some strenuous climbs and descents at high elevations.
