Gateway: Zurich/Basel
An easy hour and 1/2 bus ride from Zurich, Engelberg can be reached via railroad or highway via Lucerne. Engelberg tranlated from German "The Mountain of Angels" could have been indeed the work of angels if we consider the beauty and majestic views of the mountains and glaciers.Steeped in history yet thoroughly modern, Engelberg offers all the comfort and skiing challenge modern skiers expect and demand from a first class resort. Engelberg offers 25 various cable transportation systems (cable-cars and mainly chairlifts, some T-bar lifts), 82 kilometers of downhill ski and snowboard runs, 39 kilometers of cross-countryskiing. Try also the famous "Kings run" from Mt. Titlis (10,000 feet) to Engelberg (3,000 feet) which is very famous and one of the most beautiful runs of the Alps! This run is 12 Kilometers (7.5 Miles) long and an altitude difference of 7,00 feet! The run Mt. Titlis - Stand can be considered as a difficult downhill run. The run from Stand to Trübsee and the Jochpass-Engstlenalp areas are very suitable for intermediate skiers. The run between Trübsee and Engelberg is very ideal for families and for the less-experienced.

History - still abounds in Engelberg. The Benedictine monastery was founded in 1120 and continues today to be a center of teaching and learning. The church is impressive and imposing by it's beauty and sheer size. With it's 137 registers is the world's largest. The monasteries library houses a collection of books from it's founding days and now specializes in preservation of historical publications.

Hotels - are 3+4 star traditional Swiss and offer superb hospitality and delicious cuisine for your breakfast and dinners.
With it's close distance to Lucerne, sightseeing opportunities abound by train to the city and beyond.
