A Three Center Guided Walking Holiday

Summer 2005

This tour is devised as a perfect introduction to the spectacular scenery of the ancient barony of Corca Dhuibhne (Corkaguiney). Gaelic culture is alive and the Gaelic language is still spoken in the homes at the western end of the peninsula. The walks are spread throughout its length, allowing you to sample the hills that make up its spines, as well as some of the many beaches.
Routes, with a variety of ground underfoot, can be from 10 to 20 km (6.25 to 12.5 miles) each day.

This week long tour is based in Tralee, the county town, the fishing harbour of Dingle and at an Inn in the peaceful seaside village of Cloghane.

Accommodation: Your accommodation in Killarney and Cahersiveen is in quality family run guesthouses. Every room has a TV, private bathroom and there are tea & coffee making facilities for all guests. Full Irish Breakfast and Continental Breakfast are served each morning, and vegetarians are also catered for.

Itinerary:

Day 1: Arrival
Optional airport transfer from Shannon or Kerry airports. Dinner and welcome briefing with guide.

Day 2: Dingle Way (Tonevane to Derrymore) (5.3 miles)
A gentle walk on the slopes of the Slieve Mish Mountains, overlooking the wild bird sanctuary and the blue expense of Tralee Bay, and ending at one of the many quiet deserted golden beaches on the Peninsula, Derrymore Strand. Return transfer to Tralee for dinner in another of the town's many restaurants and overnight.

Day 3: Annascaul Glen to Glennahoo (7.25 miles)
Two valleys (and contrasting views) for the price of one! From the legend-filled Annascaul Glen, a zig-zag track rises over a saddle of Maghanaboe and descends in Glennahoo.

Day 4: Dingle Way (Ventry to Slea Head) (6.5 miles)
Through landscape littered with archeaological sites, walk over the rocky shores of Dingle Bay to the Atlantic Ocean. The spectacular scenery of Slea Head and Dunquin (the nearest parish to America) has been captured in many movies.

Day 5: Option Day
In the morning we will transfer you to Dingle, where you can spend the day discover the town visiting the craft shops, sampling the famous restaurants and pubs or take a boat trip to see Fungi, Dingle's own resident wild dolphin. You may also want to take a boat trip to visit and walk around the Blasket Islands, whose rugged and wild beauty will give you an idea of the hard life of the islanders, the last of whom left in the 1950's.

Day 6: Dingle Way (Brandon Creek to Brandon Village) (8 miles)
An old military road leads from Brandon Creek (from where St. Brendan sailed to America), crossing the Brandon Ridge at the saddle of Masatiompan, before descending by the village of Arraglen to the fishing village of Brandon.

Day 7: Dingle Way (The Northern Beaches) (12.5 miles)
A leisurely coastal walk - three beaches, two medieval church ruins, one wildbird sanctuary - on a walk that can be shortened or lengthened to suit you and the day.

Day 8: Departure.
After your final breakfast in your guesthouse you may opt for a complimentary transfer to either Shannon or Kerry Airport (see transfer times below)
