Multi-Center Guided Walk on the Kerry Way

Summer 2005



The Kerry Way, a low-level walking route, uses the old droving paths and coach roads of the Iveragh Peninsula to create a journey through history and folklore. Spectacular views, combined with rare flora and fauna, geology and bird watching will be appreciated by all, whether amateur or enthusiast. On the tour, you walk four of the many attractive sections of the Way and also a beach walk. With an experienced guide at hand and luggage transfer taken care of, all you have to do is walk tall and enjoy a unique Irish welcome.


Accommodation: Your accommodation in Killarney and Cahersiveen is in quality family run guesthouses. Every room has a TV, private bathroom and there are tea & coffee making facilities for all guests. Full Irish Breakfast and Continental Breakfast are served each morning, and vegetarians are also catered for.

- Killarney National Park - Lakes, oak woods, waterfalls, bogland, habitat of the Irish red deer.
- Muckross House.
- The ice-carved Black Valley and the Gap of Dunloe.
- Spectacular coastal walks along Dingle Bay and Kenmare River/Bay.

Itinerary:

Day 1: Arrival
Optional airport transfer from Shannon or Kerry airports. Dinner and welcome briefing.

Day 2: Gap of Dunloe to Black Valley (10 miles)
Your first day's walking is through the dramatic and internationally known Gap of Dunloe and continues through the ice-carved Black Valley. Overnight in Beaufort.

Day 3: Glenbeigh to Kells (10.5 miles)
The second day's walking takes you on the early Christian route and medieval coaching road from Glenbeigh to Kells with detours to view archaeological artifacts and views across Dingle Bay and out to the Atlantic Ocean. Transfer along the Ring of Kerry to the seaside village of Caherdaniel. Overnight in Caherdaniel.

Day 4: Caherdaniel/Derrynane (optional)
You can enjoy a choice of walks - on the Blue Flag Derrynane Beach, through Derrynane National Park or the gardens of Derrynane House. A longer walk on a Mass (or perhaps smugglers') Path allows views from a higher level. Overnight Caherdaniel.

Day 5: Caherdaniel to Sneem (10.5 miles)
You return to walking the old coach road, a butter route, linking the picturesque villages of Caherdaniel and Sneem. There are spectacular views across the island-studded Kenmare Bay to the Beara peninsula. Overnight in Sneem.

Day 6: Sneem (optional)
You can continue eastward on the Kerry Way through woodland close to the shoreline of Kenmare Bay. Stroll around Sneem village with it's sculpture parks and colorful houses. Option of cycling, perhaps to Staigue Fort. Overnight Sneem.

Day 7: Kenmare to Killarney National Park (11.25 miles)
You transfer onwards along The Ring of Kerry to Kenmare, to walk the Old Kenmare Road with splendid views over the picturesque Lakes of Killarney. Descend by Torc Waterfall for a stop at Muckross House and Gardens to avail of some welcome home cooking at the Tea House. Overnight Killarney.

Day 8: Departure.
After your final breakfast in your guesthouse you may opt for a complimentary transfer to either Shannon or Kerry Airport (see transfer times below)


Shannon airport transfers

Shannon airport to accommodation at 11:00AM and 4:00PM on Saturdays from the information point in the arrivals hall. Return transfer arrives at Shannon airport at 11.00 on Saturdays.
Kerry airport to accommodation, between 8:00AM and 6:00PM Hrs. Return transfer arrives at Kerry airport between 8:00AM and 6:00PM Hrs on Saturdays.
Clients who cannot make these transfer times should make their own way to the accommodation. Arrangements can be made for taxi transfers, at the client’s own expense.
