With it's tingling fresh mountain air Leukerbad is a place for family, sports and wellness holidays. In fact, it's a place for everyone in every season of the year.
The curative water has been well known since Roman times. Every day 3.9 million liters of thermal water flow into the private and public pools. With a total of 22 thermal pools (indoor and outdoor) Leukerbad is home to the largest thermal pool offer in the Alps. In "Burgerbad" our guests can enjoy 11 pools with temperatures between 28C and 44C. The "Alpentherme" was opened in Leukerbad in November of 1993 and has established itself as a unique wellness center in the Swiss Alps. Among other facilities, it offers a spacious therapy center, beautifully designed indoor and outdoor pools, a 25m sports pool as well as a luxurious Roman-Irish bath.
Cross-country skiers have two main possibilities of practicing their favorite sport they can either use the 5 kilometer trail near the village or take the cableway up to the Gemmi Pass and the chairlift to the Daubensee. In this enchanting powder snow landscape, they will discover more circuits of 8 and 10 kilometers each and will be able to enjoy the exceptional quietness and relaxing atmosphere of the site.
Downhill skiers also have several options: there are two ski-lifts and a four seat chairlift near the village. But, most importantly, they can take the Torrent cableway up to a vast skiing area with 60km of slopes of all degrees of difficulty: some of them are used for World Cup training and testing. Six ski-lifts, one chairlift and one cableway connect the skiing areas of Torrent and Albinen. Once at the top (2,340m to 2,700m) skiers, mountain and sun fans will discover the magnificent panorama over the Valais and Bernese alps and their 4,000m majestic peaks. The heights of Leukerbad are suitable for paragliding and a challenging toboggan run has been created at the Daubensee for those who enjoy this sport. Snowboards are very welcome as well.
You are not a cross-country skier nor a downhill skier? It doesn't matter, as Leukerbad has facilities available for ice-skaters, curling players as well as for tennis and squash year-round players. The new Sportarena in the village offers indoor and outdoor ice-rinks, one indoor curling rink, three tennis courts, two for squash, four for ping-pong tables and a fitness center. Hikers will find 10k of well kept paths throughout the winter to take walks and, at the same time, enjoy the fresh mountain air. In terms of entertainment, we offer weekly programs of selected cultural and traditional events with local artists, conferences, as well as sports happenings. Whatever your occupations may be, you will always find good restaurants on your way to relax and taste the local specialties.
